Sea Change Café Featured by BBC News During Difficult Time

We’re incredibly grateful to BBC News for sharing our story – even if it’s one we wish we didn’t have to tell.

We were recently featured by BBC News, who kindly took the time to listen to our story – not just about the challenges we’re facing, but about what Sea Change really means to the people who make it what it is.

In the article, our founder Sarah shares the reality of rising costs, including a sudden £20,000 energy bill and a 400% increase in monthly utilities. Like so many community spaces across the UK, we’re feeling the strain. But behind the numbers is something far more important – the people at the heart of Sea Change.

“It makes a massive difference to them because they feel safe here, they feel supported… A lot of them never thought they’d ever be in paid employment.” – Sarah Farrell-Forster, Founder

For Bryn, Nicole, and others on our team, Sea Change isn’t just a café – it’s a chance and a place where they feel seen and valued.

“I don’t know where I would be without Sea Change. It would mean I’m out of a job and, at the end of the day, nowhere else will take people with disabilities.” – Nicole, a Team Member since 2021

We never set out to be just a café. From day one, we’ve been about inclusion, opportunity, and proving what’s possible when people are supported to thrive. That mission hasn’t changed – even if the landscape around us has.

We’re doing everything we can to keep our doors open. If you’d like to read the full BBC News article, you can find it here.

And if you’d like to support us or help spread the word, we’d be so grateful. Every message, share, and donation helps more than you know.
